Top Italian Fashion designer
Giorgio Armani, an Italian fashion designer, was born on July 11, 1934. He is known today for his clean, tailored lines and his menswear. He formed his company, Armani, in 1975, and by 2001 was acclaimed as the most successful Italian designer with an annual turnover of $1.6 billion and a personal fortune of $8.5 billion as of 2013.
Armani was born in a small northern Italian town. Armani’s father is of Armenian and Italian descent. Armani was interested in a different career, medicine, and enrolled in the Department of Medicine at the University of Milan. In 1953, after three years he broke off his studies, and joined the army. Because of his medical studies, he was transferred to an infirmary in Verona. Armani’s interest towards medicine faded soon and he found himself looking for a different career.
Besides fashion, Giorgio Armani has a keen interest in sports. He has twice designed suits for the England national football team and has designed suits for the players of the London club Chelsea since August 2007. He designed the Italian flag bearers’ outfits at the opening ceremony at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, and also designed Italy’s Olympic uniforms for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The Chelsea Football Club has commissioned Armani to create a new look for its Directors’ Suite at Stamford Bridge. The so called “Armani Lounge,” the dining room and lounge area serve as meeting place and for the entertainment of VIP guests. In total the “Armani Lounge” covers estimated 200 square meters personally designed by him from his Armani/Casa home interiors collection.
